There are always plenty of opportunities for parents and members of the community to volunteer and help out at Jackson. Volunteers are required to have a current background check on file with the district. Click here to complete the PPS background check form.
Lunch & Recess Volunteers (sign up link)
Sign-up to help monitor the lunch room, courtyard, and track during lunch. All slots cover both lunches/recesses and run from 12:00pm-1:30pm. The outdoor space can only be open to students when an adult (either staff or volunteer) is present. Sign-ups are reoccurring (once a month), but its okay of you need to miss a month due to other obligations. This is a great way to be present at school and get in some extra steps!
Picture Day Volunteers! (sign up link)
We are seeking 6 volunteers with their background checks complete to help line up students and assist photographers with pictures and ID creation.
Thursday, September 17 9:15am – 3:30pm
Two shifts are available: AM Shift: 9:15-12:00 & PM Shift: 12:45-3:30
Each Volunteer will get a free portrait package “C” for their assistance!
PPS Clothing Center Volunteers (sign up link)
Thursday, September 10th is Jackson’s day to send 5-6 volunteers from 9:30am -1:30pm, to help kids receive clothing and to help sort donations so there are lots of choices for kids to see. Volunteers can be parents, grandparents or community members. We are located at the Marshall Campus; 3905 SE 91st, Room A-21.
Multilingual Learner Support Volunteers
The school is looking for a few volunteers who are interested in working with Multilingual Learners on a regular basis from 2:22-3:09. Volunteers can sign up for one day or multiple days per week, and should plan on volunteering on a weekly basis for the semester or the whole school year.
Volunteers would be working with students who are new to the United States and just beginning to learn English — typically within their first one to two years in a U.S. school system — as well as students who need extra support catching up in the following areas:
Basic English literacy: listening, speaking, reading, and writing fundamentals
Survival/social English: everyday vocabulary for school, community, and daily life; Academic vocabulary: introducing key terms used across content areas (math, science, social studies); Cultural orientation: understanding school norms, expectations, routines, and U.S. classroom culture
