Grandparents and Special Friends Reading Challenge

As you gather with family and friends over the winter break, we challenge you to make a pact between generations to read each other’s favorite book. Here’s a page of bookmarks that could be used, but any piece of paper will do. Or, maybe just an old-fashioned handshake! Let me know how it went when you’re done (tmaier@pps.net or students can report back). Did you like your family or friend’s favorite book?

If you need some ideas, here’s a list of the Newbery Award winners dating back to 1922 (I found the book that won the year my own mother was in middle school!) The Newbery is the premier children’s book award given in the United States. Our JMS website, on the Library page (here), also lists links to the Printz Award winners (best teen lit) under the heading “Great Reading.”
