Participate in Attendance Research

The Jackson community has the opportunity to participate in important research on attendance practices within PPS. Annie Scott, Concordia Graduate Student of Community Psychology, PPS parent, and former PPS employee, will be conducting a survey on the function of school refusal behavior.

Annie will administer the survey this Thursday and Friday, March 31 and April 1, during lunch; no class time will be affected. Parent consent forms were distributed to the students, but if you no longer have the form and would like to participate, please click here to print one, or you may get a new form from the main office.

Let’s see how our students feel about going to school and staying at school. Please encourage your students to take the survey, and turn in the consent form.

Donate it!

Wine…

The PTA is still in need of wine and beer donations for Bernie O’Stein! We need more 50 bottles for the wine wall (valued at $10 or more). Consider clearing out and donating wine from your cellar or take advantage of a local business connection and get a discount on your donation.

Barbur World Foods is offering 10% bottle & 20% case discounts for purchases made on behalf of Bernie O’Stein – just ask for Dan if you want help making a selection.  They will even store the wine for the PTA to pick up, or you can arrange for Kelly to pick wine up by emailing volunteer@jacksonpta.org.

… or beer

This year we’re expanding the offering to include 22-ounce bottles of beer! Jessica is collecting donations of 22 oz. beers valued at $4 or more. Arrange drop-off/pick-ups via email to jess_jon@msn.com

Consider volunteering with Bernie O’Stein this year

Meet new parents while you do your good deed for the year by volunteering at the Bernie O’Stein event this year at Oaks Bottom. Tasks include setting up and tearing down the event, paddle raise helpers, helpers for checking people in, food helpers, and manning the wine wall. We especially need help breaking down after the event. Please consider staying a bit later and helping out with stacking chairs, gathering tablecloths, and drinking the last of the beer in the keg.

Girls’ Night Out

Girl Power!

Girls’ Night Out is a free spring event for 100+ 7th and 8th grade Jackson girl students where girls rule the school for an evening. Wilson High School student role models inspire, motivate, and lead activities such as a “she-mazing” race, a dance, and self-defense, clique-control, and self-esteem building workshops. This year, GNO will be held on Friday evening, April 8th.

In order to keep the event free for the students so that all may participate, we rely heavily on volunteers and donations from families, businesses, and the community. Please click here to learn more about the event and how you can help with either a donation or your time … or both! Thank you!

Movie Night: Race to Nowhere

Attention Parents! Come to movie night on Monday, February 29, from 6:30pm-8pm, in the Wilson High School cafeteria. Then, come again the following Monday evening for a discussion of the film in the Wilson HS library.

“Race to Nowhere” is a film that calls us to challenge current thinking about how we prepare our children for success. Named by TakePart.com as one of “10 Education Documentaries You Don’t Want to Miss”, “Race to Nowhere” brings communities together to spark dialogue and galvanize change in America’s schools. Click here for more information and for the trailer.

8th Grade Field Trip to Wilson

On Friday, March 4, our 8th graders will be traveling from Jackson by school bus to spend the morning at Wilson High School.  The busses will leave promptly at 9:30am, so please be here on time!

The day will consist of a pep assembly, a school tour, and a presentation by WHS counselors regarding offerings and opportunities at Wilson High School.  It will be an important day, and the staff and students at Wilson are looking forward to having us there.  Students will be back at Jackson in time to have lunch and attend afternoon classes.

Please call the main office with any questions.
